By using a lighter palette and experimenting with unique brushstrokes, Van Gogh reinvented himself.Krone’s interpretation of Van Gogh’s Starry Night is mirrored in its fine hand painted writing instrument. Van Gogh’s use of thick swirling brush strokes gives the impression that the painting is constantly moving and reflects his belief that the night was “more alive than the day.” These techniques are also evident in his Self Portrait 1889, featured on the cap.
